From North to South

Amy's ramblings. Once upon a time these ramblings pertained to my 5 months in Guatemala and Honduras. Then they followed the ebb and flow of my final semester in Alaska. From there things really went south ... to Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. After 8 months in the Andes, I fell back under Alaska's spell … working at a newspaper and wandering mountains. Now I'm somewhat south again ... in Jackson Hole, WY, teaching ski school on the clock and making fresh tracks off the clock.

First Installment of photos from Lago Atitlan

A volcano at water's edge

Splashing in the water

The lakes edge

Spectacular Views!

Fallen bridge from Stan
Patrick and Brian dancing on the fallen bridge that still served as the way across the river

Kayaks for Rent! You have to admire the ingenuity used to make the seat.

Destruction from Hurricane Stan

The boat taxis

Patrick figured that since we were taking a hike along the lake notorious for laudrones (theives), if he brought his machete it would help to ward them off. I think he just wanted to carry his machete and used the afore mentioned excuse to do so. The whole day he was displaying it proudly and making jokes with the locals about it. (Side note: Instead of a machete, my answer to the afore mentioned problem of theives was just to not bring anything of value on the hike)
