From North to South

Amy's ramblings. Once upon a time these ramblings pertained to my 5 months in Guatemala and Honduras. Then they followed the ebb and flow of my final semester in Alaska. From there things really went south ... to Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. After 8 months in the Andes, I fell back under Alaska's spell … working at a newspaper and wandering mountains. Now I'm somewhat south again ... in Jackson Hole, WY, teaching ski school on the clock and making fresh tracks off the clock.

Rocks, ridges and vistas

Today's run was just that divine that it got its very own post. Forever and ever I've wanted to follow the ridge the runs between Ram Valley and Ptarmigan Valley. I'd heard its possible, but not often done. A couple of weeks ago I started talking it up, and managed to get Karen and Britta on board. I bought a map last night to figure out the nuances of the route and by 7 a.m. today we were off.

Just so happened that the day we choose to spend seven and a half hours on a ridge was the most beautiful day I've seen in Alaska since I've been back. Our ridge run not only took us through Ram Valley - my very favorite place in all of the Chugach - but also up and over the summits of Significant, Mile High and Vista. And in the distance we could see Denali, Spur and Redoubt - white and crisp. A truly divine day!
