From North to South

Amy's ramblings. Once upon a time these ramblings pertained to my 5 months in Guatemala and Honduras. Then they followed the ebb and flow of my final semester in Alaska. From there things really went south ... to Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. After 8 months in the Andes, I fell back under Alaska's spell … working at a newspaper and wandering mountains. Now I'm somewhat south again ... in Jackson Hole, WY, teaching ski school on the clock and making fresh tracks off the clock.

Where am I? Where am I going?

I am sitting at the airport in La Ceiba on the northern coast of Honduras waiting to catch a plane to the middle of nowhere aka a small town in a biosphere reserve. Well, the plane doesn't actually go to that town, called Las Marias. Eight hours up river in a manpowered dugout canoe is the means that will actually take us all the way there. It's kind of odd to be typing at a high-speed computer and know that in the next few days even a light bulb will become a bit of a luxury. I have to admit that the big bugs and daily diet of rice and beans make me somewhat nervous, but I am more than excited for the adventure ahead. May the water be smooth sailing and the sun bright!
