From North to South

Amy's ramblings. Once upon a time these ramblings pertained to my 5 months in Guatemala and Honduras. Then they followed the ebb and flow of my final semester in Alaska. From there things really went south ... to Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. After 8 months in the Andes, I fell back under Alaska's spell … working at a newspaper and wandering mountains. Now I'm somewhat south again ... in Jackson Hole, WY, teaching ski school on the clock and making fresh tracks off the clock.

Powder: a family bonding experience

My mom, dad and Auntie Kathe came to visit me here in Jackson Hole a couple of weeks ago. Their timing was impeccable - they showed up for the two of the best powder days we've had all month. We teled the first day at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and the second day at Grand Targhee. All in all a great visit!

Group portrait next to the "Bottom of the Hobacks" sign. Yep, that's right. For our "warm up" run, I took my family into Rendezvous Bowl and down the Hobacks, a continuous vertical drop of more than 4,000 feet. (To my credit, I did give them the option, and, really, who can resist first tracks on a powder day).

The tele gang at Grand Targhee - we're about ready to drop into our favorite tree run.
