Zippy and Bruno

Zippy's best buddy is his next door neighbor puppy, Bruno. Zippy and Bruno get to have play dates at least a few times each week, and when one of their families goes out of town, they get to stay at the other's house. Here's a few photos from when Bruno stayed with us for a couple of weeks in March.

Meet Zippy

Meet Zippy, a loveable wiggly 6-month-old husky mix. He came home with me on Wednesday and has already snuggled his way into being allowed on the bed … it’s impossible to say no to big floppy ears and brown eyes that just want to curl up on your lap. He’s an energetic dog with a great demeanor. He loves to be outside. Today we went on a long walk and I had him unleashed the whole time. He stays close, listens and is always up for a good game of chasing sticks. I can’t wait to teach him how to ski jour … but he needs to be a little older and we need to have snow before that can happen. (On a side note: three days of 50 degrees, rain and wind have complete decimated Alaska’s beautiful winter wonderland, leaving mud and slush in its wake. Eagle River, which only last week was complete frozen over, now is flowing ice free.) Zippy has some manners to work on and some commands to learn, but all-in-all he’s an awesome dog, and I’m happy to have him in my life.

Xela

Xela is a wonderful addition to the family. I love her dearly. She comes to work with me and chills out under my desk (per my bosses suggestion... gotta love Alaska.) In the evening we go for runs together (she's quite the trail dog) or head to the park to play catch (her favorite pass time). She's super calm, but still full of puppyness. She plays well with other dogs, especially the 1 1/2 year old pup who lives a few blocks away. She learned about kids last night. It took her a few minutes to realize that they're just people, only smaller. She carries her toys around with her everywhere.

My goal for this week will be to get some better photos of her. Life has been crazy on my end... and I haven't had time to arrange glamor shots for her... but maybe that's a good thing... because for as cute as she is, all the neighborhood boy hounds would be after her... but I'm not a doting mother ; )

I'm a mom

It was love at first meet. She's an eight month-old, mild-mannered lab mix. Her previous owners surrendered her after going through a divorce. She listens to basic commands and is house trained. And she is oh so very loveable.

I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of my family. Her name is Xela (pronounced Shayla). She comes home on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning.
